What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural and normal state of mind that we encounter while falling asleep, daydreaming or being lost in a good movie or book. It is a state of relaxation. This relaxation allows us to have a hightened suggestibility. In other words, when we are in a hypnotic state we are open to allowing information to enter our subconscious minds. This allows us to change the beliefs, attitudes and phobias.
Hypnotherapy works by using the tool of hypnosis to communicate directly with the subconscious mind to change beliefs, attitudes or phobias. When we are in a hypnotic state, our conscious minds and the "critical factor" of the mind is put aside. The " critical factor" of the mind is the part of the mind that decides what enters the subconscious mind from the conscious mind based on previous experiences. When we are in a hypnotic state, the conscious mind and critical factor of the mind are no longer blocking access to the subconscious mind.
Our conscious minds are based on reasoning and logic. This causes the conscious mind to only use the language of verbal logic which the subconscious does not understand .
No, the hypnotic state is different from a
sleep state. In fact most people are more mentally clear and alert
in a hypnotic state then in the waking conscious state! In the
hypnotic state you will be fully aware, in control and know what is
happening.
Not at all. It is widely accepted that all
hypnosis is actually self hypnosis. A hypnotherapist or hypnotist is
just there to guide you. A person in a hypnosis will not go against
their morals or beliefs in any way and can decide to come out of the
hypnotic state whenever they feel necessary.
Absolutely. Every human being on this planet can be in a hypnotic state. We all enter into a hypnotic state when falling asleep and waking up. The only difference between people is how we become hypnotized. People fall asleep different and have different methods of relaxation. Hypnosis is the same thing. Hypnotherapists are trained to help people achieve the state of hypnosis.
It is different for different people. Some people report feeling a lightness, some people report feeling a heaviness and some people just simply feel calm and relaxed. It all depends on who you are.
